Update on our proposals (Anglian Water) for the reservoir in Lincolnshire (2 May 24)
Good afternoon
I am writing to provide you with an update on our proposals for the Lincolnshire Reservoir and our plans to commence a second phase of consultation.
This week we have launched a new phase of this work, beginning with our landowner engagement, followed by public updates on our plans, with our second phase of consultation starting on 30 May. In advance of this, we wanted to ensure you are up to date with our current proposals.
As I’m sure you’re aware, the reservoir will store water so it’s on tap when we need it, meeting the challenges of a changing climate and a growing population. It will mean less water is taken from sensitive sources, helping us to protect and restore the environment. The reservoir also presents significant social, economic and environmental opportunities for communities and the whole of the East of England.
Since our phase one consultation in autumn/winter 2022 we have been developing an emerging design for the reservoir, as well as assessing options for the associated water infrastructure we need to fill the reservoir, treat the water, and transport it to homes and businesses. Throughout this time, we have been continuing to engage with statutory stakeholders as well as keeping local communities up to date through a quarterly newsletter and our Community Liaison Group (CLG).
This latest phase of work is coming to completion, so we are now engaging once again with landowners, statutory stakeholders and local communities on our updated plans for the proposed reservoir.
Our phase two consultation will run from 30 May to 25 July and will focus on the following areas:
- The emerging design for the reservoir (known as our masterplan), showing our ideas for where recreation, wildlife, nature and other features could be, together with the shape of the reservoir and its embankments.
- The locations and land areas we’ve identified for the associated water infrastructure needed to transport water from source to the reservoir, for treating the water, and for supplying it to homes and businesses.
We will also be providing information on our preliminary proposals for wider areas of land in the vicinity of the reservoir, which we could need for environmental mitigation and construction.
We believe this new information will give local communities a much clearer understanding of what the reservoir could look like and the potential future opportunities it could bring to the area..
Before we share our plans with the local communities, we have engaged with landowners who will be directly affected by the updated proposals. As mentioned above, this engagement has commenced, and includes those landowners we have previously spoken to, but also some new landowners whose land may be affected by the newly identified associated water infrastructure. We will be holding individual meetings with those landowners and hope to be able to meet with as many as possible before the consultation begins at the end of May.
We have also published an artist’s impression of the reservoir and information for local communities to inform them that the second phase of consultation for the Lincolnshire Reservoir is approaching. This is supported by a media release, as well as an updated project website (www.lincsreservoir.co.uk). The information provided is at a high level and will not share details of the updated proposals, as these will be released once the consultation has launched. However, it will ensure that the local community is aware the consultation is approaching soon.
We will be in touch again in the coming weeks when the consultation launches.
If you would like to discuss anything or have any questions about the project or forthcoming consultation, please contact us at info@lincsreservoir.co.uk.
Kind regards
Kelly Linay
